Assignment 7

a) Create a 20 seconds sound composition to be visually mapped by my right: Eduardo

Sound Download->

To create this composition I used the SequenceRR application from assignments 3 - e.

I wanted to compose something simple and clear.

b) Create visual map of the composition passed by my left: Alia

Alia's composition:

Visual mapping of Alia's composition ->

Listening to Alia's composition gradually an image formed in my mind, like a car chased by other cars over a bridge in the night. In the composition there are three main elements: the beat which I mapped to the stripes in the upper part of the map, the bass line mapped to the black chased car path and the echoing clacson like sounds, which I mapped to the chasing cars colors(for pitch).

c) Read the visual map passed by my left: Alia and recompose the original sound by Alia's left: Seung

Alia's visual map of Seung's composition->

Seung's sound composition I recreated based on Alia's map:

The image Alia gave me firstly remembered me of a winter dawn, with frozen dew in a purple bright light, then I transposed this into an underwater scenery.

Assignment 6

a+b) Volume as input - Synchronized apertures

Synchronized apertures from Claudio Midolo on Vimeo.

The music is Nanou2 by Aphex Twin.

inspired by Seung's fifth assignment and in collaboration with her.

Volume is associated to a simple shape transformation of each element of the pattern.

Mixing the visualization and the song I imagine all the photos are taken around the world in the same time without one noticing the others, in a synchronous movement which captures instants, memories which form a collective emotion.

This reminds me of the "Between Blinks & Buttons" project by Sascha Pohflepp.

d) FFT visualizer - Frequency Erosion

Frequency Erosion from Claudio Midolo on Vimeo.

Music: Vordhosbn by Aphex Twin

this song by Aphex Twin has always created in my mind an image of a rock, a memory, being eroded by waves of frequencies leaving just a trace behind.

Overlap from Claudio Midolo on Vimeo.

I was looking at vvork.com while listening to "subraum" by wes rock in the cologne commons compilation and suddenly while looking at the magnificent gif animation by mathwrath.com/ I felt the two where overlapping perfectly in any sense!

Assignment 5

a) Visual granular synthesis - Emergence

This is a photo I took a while ago in my house in Italy.

Visual granular synthesis

In Claudio Marra's "The unfaithful image" book I found the work of Hiroyuki Masuyama an artist who creates his visual compositions out of hundreds of photographic parts.

To me Granular synthesis is another face of the phenomenon of Emergence.

b+c) Granular synthesis controller + recreate sounds

I plugged my ROBOCONTROLLER from Algo class into the granular code and experimented with it in order to recreate the target sounds.
