003: Gesture Points as Objects

"...wild slinky"

I used this week's code and inspiration to improve the previous week's homework. In this example we really get the idea of something oscillating, organic, and reacts like a slinky to your mouseX and mouseY.

"...bezier curves in the abyss make skeletal creatures"

With the advantage of "springiness",I was afforded a lot of different animations and compositions with the below code. Using bezier curves that change depending on time and mouse position, these deep abyss creatures move in a subtle yet appealing way.

"spray brush objects."

spraying and fading.

003: Sketch 2+ (3 hours each)

ramsay's left shoe

small dust on ramsay's shoe

Part of last week's exercise was to draw someone that catches your eye with your eye. From a mere attraction, 5-minute stare-down, and now memory...I drew Ramsay's black shoe. Don't ask me why I chose his shoe. It was originally its reflection on the tile floor that caught my attention, but then I went up to it fairly close and focused on the stitching and lacing. I think my memory may have concocted something that is a bit inaccurate but my gut fleshed out this drawing. A shoe... how everything intersects, crosses, overlays...definitely not an easy thing to duplicate a week later. I think where I pressed down harder are the areas I thought I remembered the best.

favorite line details

As if the world is my undefined sheet of paper, this fragment of my life drawing happened to find my utensil at certain points. I prefer the details of the sketch after it had been worked on for three hours. The composition as a whole is not too special for me. Certain parts of it, when observed closely, can be really nifty.

Class Details

Co-taught by Zachary Lieberman + Taeyoon Choi

This class investigates the curious space where drawing and computation meet. From the earliest moments of the computer, developers have been striving for intuitive and meaningful ways to capture and explore gesture digitally. Likewise artists - From Durer's drawing machine, to Sol Lewitt's infinite cubes and Moholy Nagy's imaginary structures -- have used computational method to transfer reality on to the paper and generatively reproduce elements of their drawing.
