Project for Tempt

Tempt is a graffiti artist that has Lou Gehrig's disease. He lost control of his muscles, but the disease spared his eyes.
The Graffiti Research Lab/ FATlab are creating a drawing tool using eye tracking to help Tempt draw again.

Here are some brush proposals for this project. I thought about loosing everything and having to draw with something I am not used too. I played around with the pitch drawing code for that, and created different solutions for a brush.
I wanted the brush to have both qualities of graffiti (spraying, texture, movement), and a mark that inspire freedom and lightness. For that, I played with floating lines and opacity. I wanted him to be able to have light strokes and be able to come back on them to accentuate them.

Jean-Dominique Bauby wrote "The Diving Bell And The Butterfly" by blinking his eye when he had a locked in syndrome. As he said in his book, his body is trapped in a diving bell while his soul wanders like a butterfly.
My brushes (especially the last ones) are an attempt to make Tempt travel and feel free when he is drawing. And to make him experience again the volatility and the trace left of the graffiti.
