Assignment 4 - making HW for the class
I have been thinking hard to 'come up with' the homework for the class...and it is very hard. anyway, here is what I came up with my idea for our homework. I spent too much time thinking and I ran out of time to actually DO it. so I guess if this is chosen - I will do it together with the class.
the inspiration came from the drawing tools that we have been making - majority of tools I made are either inspired by or extended our analog capabilities to draw on paper. my particular interests in digital drawing tools are characters or personalities that these tools can have. Some of the tools are much beyond the drawing capability in analog - what would be the opposite situation? what analog drawing method are beyond digital? what magic do we have??
I kept thinking about analog drawing tools and methods that I grew up using and I thought of abridashi.
abridashi is a fun/traditional drawing activity in Japan which I grew up doing - Hidden pictures painted or printed on paper using citrus juice will become visible when the sheet of paper is heated(refer to the image below).Documentary evidence suggests that the technique was used in producing an 1809 print that presented a program listing actors' names, but when heated revealed the actors' portrait.(definition)

I looked up an equivalent terminology in English and the closest I could find was steganography which is "the art and science of writing hidden messages". (wiki definition) so...here is the HW. how do we draw and reveal in digital to deliver a hidden message ? and what kind of interaction do you propose for people to reveal it? password? keyPress? encryption? onionskin? physical gesture(magic !)?
